‘Saints & Martyrs’ consists of a series of photographs of painted sculptures. Those sculptures are made to exist only as photographs. The constructions are made of plasticine, wax, paper, and fabric. Color is added with gouache, watercolor, acrylic, body paint, eye shadow, nail polish, and pastels. The work is hybrid, queer in content and form. It samples and mixes past religious visual traditions that sublimated the body.
The images oscillate between the instantaneousness of photography, of the frozen moment, to the careful mental reconstruction of the laborious process of their making, like in painting. Also between the auratic and the reproducible.
