They say that hope is the thing with feathers and thus I believe that sadness if the thing that has feathers but does not fly. This creature is a figurative depiction of the feeling of sadness as a creature who has the ability to fly but remains grounded, tired and unable to see its own wings and thus, its own potential. The human face is meant to convey a deep sense of detachment and exhaustion with large vacant and sunken eyes with an un fixed gaze. I created this piece as a deeply personal expression of my own struggle with feelings of hopelessness and depression.
