I like to juxtapose documentary images with textures and details that try to tell a broader story. In this series, I'd flown home from Berlin where I'd been working and having a secret fling. I came back to help my family clear out the rotting 1970s trailer where I'd spent my teenage years. It was a sealed time capsule, full of the hopes a Y2K teen had for the future and the palpable anxiety of growing up with a mentally ill sibling. This series is a mix of photos from Berlin and the trailer. It's a love letter to my young self, a peak into an embarrassing journal, an assurance that I got away. But also a hard look at the fragile identity we construct and a reminder that running away becomes a lifelong habit.
