‘Rootstock’ is the combination of the roots and trunk of a tree. It’s the part that controls the delicate balance between blossom and growth. Too much growth comes at the expense of blossoming, but too much blossom can wear out the tree.
Trees are smart. They know this balance is essential to their existence, regardless of where they grow. Does the location of our roots determine our fate? How do we, as humans, grow and blossom in the places that we call our home? The true quality of our soil is determined by a range of issues. This makes life both cruel and beautiful. We all have to take care of our own rootstock, make sure we protect the balance, so we can all thrive. For me, as a photographer, I try to see things differently, to find a personal connection. To find compassion in others and in myself.
