Presence painting is the practice of intense focus while creating. The focus is on allowing creative energy to move through me without my thoughts getting in the way. I am a witness and observer remaining neutral to the process.
There is a flow, a rhythm, and performance so to speak. Once the substrate is prepared - through layers of gesso and mark making with intention - I approach the canvas as an experience about to happen and within the flow, I embark on a new journey.
Abstract painting, in particular, is a vehicle for me to connect to all that surrounds me and that is in me. The practice of Presence In Painting, much like meditation, allows a new version or perspective of me to show up. It's truly liberating and exhilarating.
