I find solace in nature, whether it is a walk in my local park to see the flowers blooming, a hike in the mountains as the leaves are changing or a paddleboard session on the bay alongside the birds that call it their home. Fresh air has always been my fix for a bad day, stress or needing to collect my thoughts.
As time and the impact of climate change become more apparent in our daily lives my moments of calm are interspersed with anxiety, despair and frustration that we are letting our environment collapse. I can’t appreciate the beauty surrounding me without questioning what this view will look like in 5, 10 or 20 years. Appreciation for the flowers blooming, leaves changing or birds cawing is met with flashes of decay, destruction and lack of life.
