My current studio practice revolves around notions of memory and personal history. Nostalgia as a psychological state fascinates me because it is rooted in paradox and contradiction: Comfort and familiarity give way to wistful longing, warmth is clouded by distance, and feelings of sincerity are tainted by rose colored sentimentalities.
In this series, isolated, ambiguous figures bear their gifts of materials goods as they wander through space, the details of their surroundings obscured by the white of the page. It is a pilgrimage of sorts. They walk beneath the glow of a pink moon, their clothing and skin basking in uniform hues of radiant light.
These paintings explore themes of reminiscence and the idea that we, as 21st century humans, never cease to accumulate baggage - both psychological and physical.
