Duwenavue Sante Johnson is BIPOC textile mixed media artist. The current body of work is internally viewed as things falling apart, then reconfiguring through the voice of resistance. Every piece of fragment is sorted and collected, picked up, touched, and moved, embedding a seeded memory. Sorting through shards and fragments, saved and put back together items take on a life of their own while permeating strength, anger, and beauty. Creation comes from an intense emotional state involving uncomfortable, non-cooperative responses to perceptions, along with resilience, still searching out joy and beauty. This piece is a hand embroidered mixed media collage creating a pathway to heaven through the idea of reflection.
