This triptych features my friend, Nhan, who, despite her serious expression, jokingly placed a vase of flowers fittingly on top of her head. I captured this on an old Canon AE-1 with black-and-white Tri-X film, and manipulated the developed film to create the mirrored and inverted effects in the final images. I'm fascinated by the duality of one's inner and outer worlds and the threshold where the two come together through perception. These portraits are meant to express this self-awareness as an experience of simultaneously feeling both inside and outside of one's body.
