O C H A S is a conceptual exploration of the aesthetic & theological sensibilities maintained by the descendants of enslaved Yoruba-peoples on the island of Cuba.
The work intends to demystify & elevate the aesthetic philosophies of blackness; combating pejorative ideologies related to "voodoo", Obeah, or Santeria.
Symbolism is on the forefront of this collection. Historically, black spirituality has largely been oversimplified; caricatured to such an extent that spiritual practices are perceived to be rooted in barbaric & non-confirmist practices based on superstition & spectacle.
O C H A S intends to offer a lens to the beauty, elegance, & sophistication Santeria/Lukumi presents to its practitioners; a view inwards presented outwardly.
