New paintings on wood from 2017 inspired by film
These paintings respond to romantic Bollywood films from the classic period. As a film historian fascinated by the 1950s and 1960s and 1970s Bollywood and have been learning and performing classic songs of the period by such performers as Hemant Kumar and Mohammed Rafi. I have constantly challenged myself to bring a response to the work that is genuine and expressive but which recognises my status as a cultural outsider inspired by this culture.
The paintings are on A4 wood, in ink and gouache and finished with beeswax.
