From the remnants of an ancient inland seabed to a former military platform built on sacred native lands, to the location where known privateers beached their ships while looting Spanish gold stolen from Mexico, this work explores landscape memory and how we find meaning in place through physical materials, history, mythology and lore.
Borrowing from and playing on archeological-collection and photographic-documentation methods, each new piece begins with site-specific historical research followed by visiting, collecting and documenting the site and physical materials. The resulting images isolate each artifact in an atmosphere of color and light recorded where the material was found. Each title includes the coordinates of the site. These images are part of a larger, ongoing body of work.
