Juan Diego Prieto is a multimedia artist and a tattoo artist based in Brooklyn, New York. His work addresses Colombian culture and his intention is to mirror a complex layered society where folkloric life is intensely exhibited. He does this by blending images of Colombian life with references to religion, popular culture, history, and myth. He uses the technique of collage to depict these themes. In the process of collaging a diverse range of components within a structure, he creates large dioramas that depict the folkloric behaviors fixed in Colombia´s idiosyncrasy. Assembling discarded materials with printed images allows him to conceive an interplay between improvised architectures and belief structures. This is an organic and improvised process that relates to the rustic life in Colombia.
