MOTHERGROUND: Dominique Rey with Madeleine and Auguste Coar

In MOTHERGROUND, Dominique Rey reimagines art and motherhood, exploring maternal gestures as radical creativity. Running at the Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq until June 28, 2025, the exhibition spans photography, sculpture, and video, weaving intimate moments into a universal narrative of connection and transformation. Rey’s works blur the boundaries between mother and child, presence and absence. Domestic Frieze (2024) juxtaposes familial chaos and equilibrium, while reflective sculptures invite viewers into the work. The titular video installation, a collaboration with her children, Los Angeles composer Patrick Kirst, and Folk Films, immerses audiences in movement, light, and sound. MOTHERGROUND positions motherhood as a profound artistic force—resilient, generative, and ever-evolving.
