My name is Miguel Espinosa and I like to consider the impact portraiture has had on my life as a Mexican American. On a small-scale, portraits have been a way to celebrate my loved ones here and now. On a grand scale many portraits assembled together have taught me the histories of nations.
Observation is integral to my way of recording individuality, and I want to focus my attention on brown experience in America. Color and composition are my tools for incorporating feeling into my observations. I hope to document the pathos of the brown individual, something that has been excluded from colonial histories.
