I produced this painting in response to a deeply disturbing refugee crisis that occurred in Maltese waters during the lockdown period. A boat full of irregular immigrants was refused entry and safety into Malta on the basis of national security. The refugees were dispatched back to Libya, where they probably perished. Many Maltese supported this decision, suing the global medical emergency as a way of justifying the unjustifiable.
