Mere Objects is a participatory artwork honoring people who have experienced sexual violence. This project bridges the line between fine art and community activism. Its clean, luminous aesthetic has been compared to a contemporary shrine. Conceptually, Mere Objects offers a structure for collective truth-telling — about the impact of sexual violence, about the process of healing and recovery, and about the power of solidarity and support.
Participation is anonymous, and is open to people of all genders, ages, and nationalities who have experienced sexual violence. New objects and stories are added as they are received, allowing the project to continuously grow and change as it travels and is exhibited in new venues.
