These pictures are from my ongoing series, Menagerie. This body of work draws from two interpretations of its title: as an assemblage of animals and — in reference to the Tennessee Williams play, The Glass Menagerie — as a trove of precious items kept by a sentimental collector. In these pictures, I am thinking about how people relate to the natural world, especially in moments of spontaneous collision with insects and animals. I contrast these chance encounters with ruminations on home, memory, and my fear of the death of my loved ones, with whom my relationship can feel just as fleeting and fortuitous.
