“Melancholic Flowers” is about my personal fascination of and the exploration between the dynamics of beauty, melancholy and sadness. Can melancholy and sadness be perceived as beautiful? If so, what does beauty mean? When defined as something pleasurable, does this mean we can experience pleasure through melancholy and sadness? And what does this say about us, those who see it as such?
By propelling a movement upon the object, a blurred image of the flower is being created against a black background. This way, a flower, which in itself is a symbol of our conventional idea of beauty, is put to being seen in a new light in a body of work where the lines of beauty, melancholy and sadness are being faded away altogether.
