I work in mixed media collage, using found paper, artifacts, personal ephemera, paint, fabric, and archetypes. I’m interested in the hunt, the unfolding. Much like an inner journey to the Self, I start out with an imagined destination, a longing. A figure beckoning in the fog. My practice involves the gathering of color, paper fragments, thread, fabric, and images on the path of the constant unfolding of being a woman. And I weave—cut, rip, glue, layer—the stories of the past, of personal and collective memory, of the land, and of myth, with the present moment.
As I deconstruct and reconstruct these ephemera, archetypal symbols and themes of the intricacy and nuance of human relationship emerge—relation to Self, to others, to the societally implicit other-ness of nature, and the inherent wildness of mammalian being.
