My name is Maria-Nicole Ikonomou and I am a 22-year old, Australian-born female visual artist based in San Francisco. Currently working full-time in public and media relations for technology companies and part-time in freelance illustration, I graduated from University of California, Santa Cruz with a bachelor's in Modern and Comparative Literature and Education in 2016.
My work is an examination of where my (our) mental illness stops and where I (we) begin and how that is a moot question. I utilize greyscale inks to draw together conceptually dark imagery: skulls and bones and soft, headless bodies, with that which is considered stereotypically beautiful: florals, fish, birds, to capture the cognitive dissonance that comes from the weight of too much work.
