In these paintings, I depict myself and my subjects inside my studio. Inspired by Renaissance Bacchanal and Modernist Bathers paintings, as well as the reflexive studio paintings of Lisa Yuskavage, Dana Schutz and Richard Bosman, to name a few, my subjects appear half-clothed while dancing, drinking, posing and lounging on one another in dense, chaotic yet organized narrative compositions. My body appears reflected in mirrors and shaped into negative space. I paint from photographs my subjects take of me in order to question my own visibility and position as a queer female painter.
