I create looking to the past, believing every identity is built through memories. Brazil is a country that was invented through the reduction and erasure of the history of its original peoples, of the souls, brought and enslaved. And more recently, with the criticism of colonialism, we could not recognize and make the most of our Lusitanian heritage. I look for references that range from the baroque of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, to the shapes and colors of indigenous peoples, flowing into my urge to see my African roots more present and exuberant in national artistic production.
