I create vulnerability from fiber, original illustration, and often snippets of text that I combine to form tapestries and fabric sculptures. My works are hybrids of hand-woven and machine-made fabrics and spun yarn, plus inkjet-printed cloth. Components are stitched together to portray anxieties. The compositions are as much poetry as artwork.
Autobiographically driven, my love of fiber as both a technique and a symbolic presence comes through in these emotional, often humorous pieces. My artworks capture the pain associated with heartbreak. My detail-oriented process conveys my general insecurity. I can’t help tell a story, imaginary or otherwise, any other way. The unusually simple design of my loom – only two pedals -- encourages improvisation and even mistakes. It is hard for me to weave without emotion.
