This is a series exploring identity, belonging and communal uncertainty through the splendor and banality of the quotidian. By combining portraiture with isolated moments of ambient detail, I hope to draw a picture of what social identity means in a world of changing circumstance.
During the pandemic, my mental health struggles grew in breadth. Strong mood swings and extended bouts of obsessiveness became frequent. The idea for this project was born from the high points of these mood swings, which had transferred to me a new and trembling notion of collective belonging. This experience would occur during neighborhood walks, whereupon the witness of the infinitesimal and immaculate detail of my surroundings would flood me with an immense sense of tenderness and unspoken community. I decided to photograph these people and places.
