During the first lockdown I had spent several months creating field sketches in my local hometown. Where I'd normally focus on character design, I became fixated on the composition and lines embellished by the landscape. I found a strong sense of narrative by combining characters within the landscape. This became a very therapeutic process for me, as I would sketch out ideas on my daily walk, later transposing them into Photoshop to create the finished design. I then started to explore utopian worlds and settings, longing for an escape from the pandemic. Lockdown has definitely struck a positive cord for my illustration work, which has continually evolved over the past year.
