Lisa Bauer is a multimedia artist based in Brooklyn, NY. She is best
known for her methodical gif-like loops documenting her creation
process. Identity, memory, and perception are a constant theme through
Bauer’s work. Through layered fine etched like lines and broad framed
strokes her portraits read intimately. There is a forlornness to the
work, emphasized by deep pools of black and blue throughout her
painting Bauer’s collection of expressive facial expressions, and
underlying awkward encounters, are inspired by train rides. Her
portraits reflect the search for the memories she’s lost or has never
been privy to. To reference her own words, “I lost my ability to
remember as much as I once had. I forgot names and situations. My
practice provides a reinforcement to remember my ideas, development,
and progress”.
