This has been a year of homecomings for Kozy Kitchens (of Kozyndan). 20 years ago she left Japan to pursue a career as an artist in America, where she and her partner Dan built an international fan base at Giant Robot. In 2016, Trump’s election made her realize she was perhaps more Japanese than she thought. Her journey away from home changed directions, and she turned to reconnect with her roots. This culminated in a handful of homecoming artist residencies around the island nation—and one of the most prolific times of her life.
Now she’s making another homecoming, this time at Giant Robot, to premiere "Growing Into Roots," a new show featuring over 200 Bunny Primitive sculptures—all finished in Japanese wood-fire kilns and made entirely out of clay from the Shigaraki region.
