Submission Sculpture

Keepsake

Keepsake is an interactive installation by Clara Santamaria and Jonathan Sparks that is inspired by neurons and evokes the way our brains remember and learn. The structure is comprised of 400+ linear feet of acrylic tubes, each containing programmable LED lights and spans a 13x15 foot hallway in the Offit Gallery at Teachers College, Columbia University.

In its resting state, the entire sculpture calmly pulses on and off inviting visitors to walk among its network of lights, observing different vantage points. They can also interact with the sculpture through 7 buttons which each trigger an animated path through the web-like structure in vibrant color, representing the neural pathways in which our memories are stored and retrieved.
