Kayan , known as the "Long Neck Tribe," were originally an ethnic minority who fled Myanmar. However, they were not settled in refugee camps, but in villages newly established for tourism purposes. The Kayan village that I visited was also the one where people lived on income earned from tourism. It is said that some Kayan women do not want to wear the rings. Many old women wear the rings for tradition, but young girls say they wear the rings for tourism.Their lives were supported by the rings they wore, and their traditions were preserved by tourism. The current situation is that if we don't change the shape of the times, we will be weeded out, and the way we should be. A cherished tradition is gradually changing over time.
