This art piece in particular was created for a Turks and Caicos Artist Lady Livz' EP Maskanoo; the art depicts Junkanoo performers in their costume. The Junkanoo Parade originated several centuries ago, when slaves on plantations in The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos celebrated holidays granted around Christmas time with dance, music, and costumes. After emancipation the tradition continued and junkanoo evolved from simple origins to a formal, organized parade with intricate costumes, themed music and official prizes within various categories. Currently Maskanoo is an annual street festival held on December 26th (Boxing Day) in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos.
