Irina Laaja (born 1989) is a visual artist from Finland, currently based in Berlin. Her background is in Fashion Design, but her work also encompasses drawing, painting and textile art.
The artist explores her inner self, emotions and memories through her visual art.
The body has always played a central role in her work, but recently it has developed towards a more abstract figurative style where bodies, body parts, objects and patterns are puzzled together into chaotic and sometimes schizophrenic collages which tells a story of the artist’s emotions and thoughts.
In the artists’s textile work she often uses traditional techniques or elements but in an innovative and experimental way.
