This series is an exploration into the significance of creating a direct positive, or single copy of a portrait, is in a contemporary photographic world.
I’m intrigued by the first photographic process of the daguerreotype and the fact that there could only ever be one. Akin to painting a portrait, the process required material, the patience of the sitter and a gaze - resulting in a completely unique composition that was produced in the presence of those who had partaken in its creation.
Each image combines the effort and energy of the photographer, sitter, camera, film negative, film positive, and processor. These photographic objects are witness to the life cycle of the photograph.
