'In the midst of disappearing' is a series of paintings created during a residency at the NARS Foundation in New York (USA) that will soon to be showing with Jan Murphy Gallery in Brisbane (Australia). The works imagine softly layered stories of women in disappearing lands. Much like the fictional worlds created by Margaret Atwood, these are lands in which the bodily rights of women dwindle as steadily as weather patterns continue to degrade. Bodies become transient and begin to dissolve into Australian native flora and fauna (heliconias, banksias, desert flames). And yet a blossoming feminine intimacy and a sense of care for the land lingers on in each painting. These works softly meditate on how to use our words, our thoughts, and our hands to meaningfully inhabit a vanishing world.
