These images are from In the Light of the Dark series which explores how in the city we never truly experience darkness. The infrastructure of the city floods us with constant illumination, giving us false shadows and a color pattern of tungsten and neon embedded deep within the urban design. Even looking out to the ocean, the lights of the city create a constant twilight the overshadows the stars. Exploring the city itself as an highly constructed object of beauty, the series - mostly shot between 4 and 5am - highlights this exclusive and almost secret vision of isolation of night. The work spans both hemispheres and explores the light in the darkness of both Brisbane, Australia and Helsinki, Finland.
