A couple of weeks ago, a good friend of mine challenged me to shoot exclusively candid photos for a whole roll. It’s pretty intimidating, especially when the subjects are strangers. But I was motivated to get better at street photography, and this is something I’d not been good at. To help ease the pain, I picked up an Ilford XP2 disposable camera to lower my profile down from my trusty Canon SLR. Quickly, the point-and-shoot style was addicting, allowing for hip-level shots and less noticeable presence.
The film itself is classic disposable – relatively inexpensive 400 ISO film. Combine this with the 30mm plastic f9 lens, you’d expect some soft images. These images definitely weren’t SLR-sharp, but they surprised me, and I even turned one of them into a print. Here’s some of the highlights that weren't underexposed! Enjoy.
