The iPhone album has become my go to way to share and remember a treasure cove of my life over the past few years. It holds such importance in shaping what I can remember, sometimes it feels like the iPhone defines my memories and experiences.
With the introductions of Cutout Tool in iPhone’s recent update, it is able to use machine learning to crop out anywhere in a photo to separate subjects or objects from their backgrounds.
In this project, I sift through my entire album of more than 10,000 photos and used the Cutout Tool to separate the subjects the phone select with their backgrounds. The product is a digital archive collectively curated by the iPhone and myself. The project questions what if technology gets to decides what is worthy of being remembered?
