My name is Morgan Lieberman and I am a queer freelance documentary photographer based in Los Angeles. I often work on narratives of subculture, identity, and disability. I recently covered the 80th anniversary of the Zoot Suit Riots and I wanted to share the imagery with you in case it is a fit for BOOM.
I find this to be timely and newsworthy since the City of Los Angeles finally denounced the string of historic, racist attacks and this year, there is potential for a decades long ban on lowrider "cruising" to be repealed. The images showcase iconic car culture of LA and Latinx pride in pachuco/pachuco fashion that was weaponized and policed during WWII. It would mean the world to be featured. I haven't been able to find a publication yet to publish this narrative and this is such a historic anniversary to give visibility to.
