My upcoming book HONG KONG NEON is about the famous and glamorous neon signs of Hong Kong. Unfortunately, since 15 years more than 90% of the neon signs of the city have disappeared, for, so called, security and economy saving reasons.
The neon signs of Hong Kong have been part of the city’s visual identity for decades. But the HK government is not paying attention to this loss of history, it is not preserving the neon signs.
I realized this project between 2012 and 2019 and I used a photographic format that also disappear, the professional instant film (Type 100) from Polaroid & Fujifilm.
The book is a tribute to the visual heritage, design, typography and people who created and shaped these neon signs and also to Hong Kong that is entering an uncertain future.
