My process of artmaking mirrors my own emotional and philosophical journey to seek and memorialize meaning. Throughout the process, I am both making and discovering meaning. By cutting up my materials into very small pieces, I often obscure the imagery of the source material and lean into a more visceral level of associations – the reactions to color and texture. Though I often sketch compositions in advance, when I create I do so without reference and spontaneously, allowing room for the work to lead and surprise me. The finished pieces are both an expression of my own journey and an invitation for viewers to find meaning in the work, informed by their own experiences.
