My grandparents raised six children in this house and had their last moments of life in it.
These images are from a few days after the house was sold and things were being claimed and taken. It felt very empty and still - not how I remembered it. I could still smell the memories. The Dove soap. The fresh cut lawn. The lemon tarts coming out of the oven. I could still picture everyone in it. Grandpa smoking his pipe in the basement. Grandma doing her crosswords in her big chair. My brother and I running around the backyard while my parents drank beer on the side patio. All the extended family huddled around the fire on Christmas morning. And suddenly it doesn't feel empty at all anymore.
