My name is Kimberly Wlassak. I am a Southern California artist working in cut and paste collage. I use scans from my own photography and my extensive collection of vintage photos to create small format worlds. Most of my collage pieces are character studies for a middle grade fairy tale I'm writing called "Gerushia's New World." Each collage has a snippet of story that goes along with it.
I have had a passion for fairy tales and anthropomorphic art since I was a small girl, creating my first collage at the age of seven. Inspired by my dreams and nightmares, Johnny Appleseed skies and the Ozarks, my work has a dark/whimsical feel. At first glance, people might say "Oh, how cute." But look deeper. There's a darkness in these little character studies.
