Alex Knezo is an artist and designer living in Brooklyn, New York. His work blends ideas from advancing digital technologies with analog hand-on craftsmanship to create new forms. This technical and systematic thinking originates from his degree in Civil Engineering, but became linked to an attention to craft during 6 years spent living in Tokyo, Japan.
'Geometries' follows an exploration of volume created from white birch. Though the shards of wood are reduced to basic units and the forms are quite simple, their juxtaposition creates complex relationships when viewed as a whole. Sharp edges soften when adjacent to its neighbors, natural imperfections in color add an organic quality to the geometric volumes, and transparencies allow for dramatic views through the object - heightened by the addition of a source of light.
