The film is called Gaib and it is an examination of spirituality, death and the presence of time in life.
It was made in collaboration with the local community of Batu Karas, West Java.
I lived in the village and made the film in collaboration with the community - and the family of local Yoga Abdul Gani.
It is a docu-narrative work, blending elements of reality, real story, and real people with some created and fictionalised circumstance.
It was shot by a crew of two (myself, and my DOP) and is entirely in Sundanese, Javanese and Arabic.
Gaib is a Javanese word - it means;
1. mysterious.
2. hidden, invisible.
3. belonging to the unseen or supernatural.
