Fruiting Body is a mystical, psychosexual exploration of the queer identity; using organic growth networks and fairy folklore as metaphor for the retelling of the homosexual story.
Composed of a series of manipulated nude portraits that combine traditional photography and ai image generation, the pieces depict fairies in states of ritual ecstasy and transformation. These beings are interconnected by a gossamer mycelial web: an ancestral, hidden network used by them to communicate in secrecy and self protection, and thus engage in their clandestine, magical and erotic ritual without interference of those who wish them harm.
Botanical and fungal root networks in Lavin’s work allegorically become the secret coded languages of oppressed queer communities.
