Xinyue Chen (under the artist name Maiyashu) is an illustrator and book artist based in New York. Their works explore emotions, memories, identities and people’s connection with the environment in a poetic way. Most of their works are done in traditional media.
Although coming from a fine art background, they found narrative-driven art allows them to communicate with their audience better. They have been involved in book-making since 2020 and created several books with original writing and illustrations.
They have provided editorial illustrations, book illustrations and designs for many well-known clients such as AARP, Asia Society, Future Islands, China Machine Press, HAZE Sounds Beijing and etc.
