When I was 3 years old, my mom read me a bedtime book that, even as a toddler, changed my life. The book, titled simply “Roland,” told the story of a boy who could create drawings that, with the use of the word “crack,” would magically come to life. Though not as well known as “Harold and the Purple Crayon,” it was the story that drove my compulsion to draw and create art.
My work is the manifestation of my belief that art does somehow come to life. At least for me when I create it. My work reflects my fascination with the many ways that we, as human beings, receive visual information. Whether it’s perceiving “real life” or looking at photography, art, and animation via TVs and our numerous electronic devices, we have this almost surreal experience of existing in multiple worlds.
