Eventually, All Things Merge Into One

My grandmother would often open the windows of the house for frische luft—German for fresh air. In Germany it is common practice to open all of the windows of one’s home and allow all of the stagnant, dead air to be cycled out with healthier fresh air. This practice is called lüften. While creating these photographs I was thinking about lüften as a metaphor for time spent in solitude, ideally during downtime and without distraction. Time that is spent alone carries with it a particular quality of experience, bringing one into a world of their own. In this state attention becomes meditative. What is seen; what is felt. The subtleties of experience that are noticed and linger on. Through an aesthetic framework of everyday settings and experiences, this aspect of attention is what the images set out to communicate.
