A durational site-specific installation comprised of hand-blown glass vessels arranged to form the phrase "Empty Time". The vessels are filled with colored water to varying levels having saturation in a gradient and is allowed to evaporate. The audience is encouraged to lightly touch the vessels with small bamboo/reed sticks, thus creating musical sounds and animating the work.
The phrase “Empty Time” suggests solitude, loneliness, and a fugitive feeling about “filling” time in which one is alone. The liquid metaphorically “fills” the time but also evaporates, thus alluding to the ebb and flow of being “empty” and “filled”. The echo of the sounds fill the empty space momentarily and then return it to silence. A playful, interactive, and experiential installation that inspires multiple meaning-making possibilities in the viewer.
