Eḷavaḷu means vegetables in Sinhala. In this series of photographs, I try to portray the island of Sri Lanka (where those pictures were made) using its products, vegetables in particular, as a departing point. An intriguing study, it shows how distinctive the produce of different places can be. Everything changes here: naming, varieties, what's relevant and what's not, how it alters the spectrum of flavors and dishes. These notions are deeply rooted in a group's culture and imagery.
